Another of Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpieces, “Porco Rosso” contains a lovely collection of flying contractions. Porco’s “Piccolo” is without doubt the star of the show, understandable…in its heritage there’s much of the “sexy” Macchi M.33. Anyway, that fine looking design was a failure as a Schneider 1925 Trophy contender: it used an old American Curtiss D-12 and suffered from wing flutter….not a very desirable thing when you are going very fast and very low around pylons.
The real Macchi M.33:
Reality usually exceeds the Fiction.
