Macchi M.C.202 Folgore: In a olive grove,…just like mine.

Macchi M.C.202 Folgore: In a olive grove,...just like mine.

A Folgore of the 71 Sq, 17 Gruppo, 1° Stormo somewhere in the Mediterranean, Sicily maybe. The Italians designed very good airframes with horrible engines at the beginning of WWII. This trend was reversed when the 202 -and in a lesser way the Re.2001- were equipped with the German DB 601 (RA.1000 RC41) engine.
The Folgore was superior to the Hurricane, P-40 and even early P-38, but it was a bit inferior to the late war Allied fighters anyway. Its Achilles’ heel was the typically Italian weakly armament.
