The Coronado was the faster airliner of its day, sadly it also proved to be the end of the road to Convair’s commercial anspirations. Convair joined late the jet airliners’ roster with their initial 880; pretty aircrafts that turned out to be uncompetitive with the well-established 707 and DC-8. With the Coronado Convair tried to put things right, but the result was a commercial failure marred by poor range. Only 37 were produced; the company suffered record losses due to these beauties.
