The F-107A was the unlucky last expression of the Sabre’s fighter family. NAA’s fighter stable long spell of success stopped when the 107 lost the tactical fighter-bomber competition (in fact it was built as a safeguard) against the equally awesome Republic F-105 “Thud”. The people of NAA tried hard though. The “Super Super Sabre” was full of innovative and risky features: all-moving vertical fin, advanced flight controls, recessed bomb load, etc, etc. It also had a very doubtful dorsal-mounted intake that earned the F-107A its not very desiderable nickname.
