Heavily armed, the B-17 Flying Fortress really honored their name. When they began to appear en masse above another “Fortress” (Festung Europa) the Luftwaffe found themselves in need of ways to crack those stubborn nuts.
This clever B-17 model depicted here had clearly delimited with lattice the cone of fire of the various gun stations in order to teach how to attack it. In the early E/F models the nose was the weakest part.
