Macchi M.C.200 Saetta: Blunt Arrow.

Macchi M.C.200 Saetta: Blunt Arrow.

The M.C.200 and the Fiat G.50 were the winners of the Programma R -a requirement of the Regia Aeronautica for a new fighter monoplane in the middle/late 30’s.The Saetta (Arrow) was the epitome of Italian fighters of the beginning of WW2: maneuverable, but poorly armed and powered by the usual so-so Italian engine.

Pretty picture of a Saetta deployed in Southern Russia. Evident the gaudy nose job that housed its feeble Fiat A.74 R.C.38; aerodynamically awful, but I do love it.
