Chengdu J-7FS: Anachronic Rhinoplasty.

With their J-7FS Chengdu was looking for ways to put a radar into their Chinese-built MiG-21 derivative,a fighter originally designed with a nose intake. This prototype was retracing in the late 1990’s -more than 40 years late- the steps already taken by others: the Americans with their YF-93 and Sabre Dog, the French Ouragan and Mystere’s variants, the Soviets with their incredible MiG Y-8 and Sukhoi with their no less startling PT-7.
This design didn’t go anywhere. The ¬†Chinese after further “toying” with the J-7 design in the end chose to develop a brand new fighter: the FC-1.
