The “Catapultabile” version Re.2000 was created in answer of a Regia Marina (Italian Navy) demand. In essence a catapult-capable fighter to be operated from their Littorio-class battleships -mimicking somehow the “Hurricats” of the British CAM ships.
Tested in 1942, the project took seriously form in the spring of 1943, just too late, the Italian Armistice came in September of that year. Few of the built were on ships, but saw little or no service.
The concept also included this ingenious trailer. The Re.2000 could be tilted horizontally to be easily hoisted into its mothership.
