NAA F-86F Sabre: Cóndores y Dólares

A neat bunch of Spanish Ejército del Aire’s Sabres shining pleasantly under a very low Mediterranean sun. As their blue and red (in the background) nose bands denote these Sabres were part of two different units. The blue ones were from the 101 Escuadrón of the Mando de Defensa (Defense Command) -radio code: “Cóndor”. The red one were from the 112 Escuadrón of the Mando de Aviación Táctica (Tactical Aviation Command) -radio code; “Dólar”. Very late in their operational service here in Spain, these 101’s Sabres are equiped with AIM-9B Sidewinder launching rails; a poor paliative to those already obsolete warriors.

By the way, the Manises AB was near my childhood home……
