Type Ito A-1 Glider: A most respectful bow required.

The Japanese in the interwar period “emulated” the best available in aviation, everywhere. The superb german sailplane fever of the same period couldn’t go, of course, unnoticed to the Mikado Empire. The Type Ito A-1 glider primary trainer seems to be obviously a clone of the inmortal Schneider Grunau 9 glider.

This really delicious photo was taken during “Dai 1kai Zen Nihon Guraida Taikai” (1st All Japan Glider Competition) held in Sept 1936 at the Mount Kirigamine, the Nagano prefecture.
