The Queen Bee was in essence a radio-controlled target drone aircraft built using Moth Major main components and equipped with Tiger Moth wings. First flown in 1935, these neat flying targets had a long and productive operational life. Not declared obsolete until 1947, the survivors were then unceremoniously burned.
In this lovely pic and early Queen Bee (K4227) during its demonstration at Farnborough, June, 1935. The corporal in the middle is operating the “control panel”. Through a series of push buttons the operator could sent the desired signals: turns, straight flight, dive, etc.
