The Tu-98 was the result of the search of a Tu-16’s supersonic replacement. Only one prototype was built in 1955 and first flown the next year. This slick bomber employed two Lyulka AL-7 turbojet placed elegantly above the fuselage feed by a pair of outrageously cool air intakes. In spite of its lack of production this unique prototype contributed to that “Cold War of Wills”: it was show to US delegates during the famous Tushino aviation display (1956).
A pity, that “booty” was sure a smasher.
