Dayton Aircraft Corporation Overmount X: Over & Out.

This lovely thing appeared in the late 1920s. A superbly streamlined monoplane (its wing was purchased from Fokker) design, this 10 seats transport was powered bizarrely by a pair of 525hp Wright Cyclones in the then classic tandem (tractor-pushers) pylon mounted configuration…. not the slickest of choices. A quite able performer during its test, the aircraft was nevertheless later converted to a pylon mounted side-by-side tractor configuration. Not enough convincing either in that iteration, the  Overmount X ended its days as a snack bar(!!) at the Lansing airport.

Its fuselage/landing gear was sure a thing of beauty, in my humble opinion.
