At first sight the medium range Tu-124 looks just like a mere scaled-down version of the household Tu-104. Well, it was that,…but with a difference. This very unassuming Soviet aircraft was the first airliner to enter service powered by turbofan engines (Soloviev D-20). Sadly, only that claim of fame was up to the task; apart from the military variants, few civilian Tu-124’s were produced and they served with modestly until replaced by more up-to-date models -read Tu-134’s.
A former Soviet AF of the Lugansk Aviation Museum (Ukraine) still at work.
