Lockheed L-1049E Super Connie: Not the Spanish Cliché, Thankfully.

There’s more than just flamenco, sevillanas, matadores and bulls in this country called Spain.

The Super Connie in this pretty poster (EC-AIN) was, in more than one way, famous: Called the “Santa María”, it was the first bought by Iberia in 1954; the first Super Connie to start the Madrid-New York service; the subject of a gorgeous and very desiderable toy; and, sadly, because it ended its days tragically -as a L-1049G then- in 1965 in a terrible accident at Los Rodeos airport (Tenerife, Canary Islands).
