Travel Air D-4000: Just for starters.

Film star Dorothy Sebastian more than ready. Photo taken around 1929.

The identity of her biplane has turned into a delicious quest to me. The shape of the wing struts; undercarriage; wing tip design and its Wright J-5 engine (the presence of the J-5’s two magnetos “humps”  just behind the Hamilton-Standard prop are evident here) say to me that this is one of those utterly diverse Travel Airs of the 1920’s.

  1. It was probably taken during the filming of The Mysterious Pilot (1937) a 15 part serial. But you probably already found that. I agree, probably a Travel Air 4000.
