NAA A-5A Vigilante: Very Spanish All.

The sheer hugeness of the”Vigi“. Here one of the VAH-1 just off  the USS Independence (CVA-62) deck, early 1960’s. Flying near a Kaman UH-2B Sea Sprite from the HC-2 “Fleet Angels”, on “Pedro” duty, ready for any eventuality.

  1. Ship captains despised the Vigi, because of it’s size, you could almost put an entire squadron of A5 Skyhawk’s in the same space. I new a Rf-5 pilot, he joked their moto was, “alone, unarmed and unafraid, a lot of the former, not much of the latter!”
