Human-powered flight has always had a very special place in my little aviation heart. Of them this one, built by the Hatfield Man Powered Aircraft Club in the early 1960s, is at the very top of my affections. Just take a look at its poetic complexion in all that magnificent transparency. A world record holder too. On 2 May 1962 with its designer, John Wimpenny, pedalling the Puffin achieved at the Hatfield airfield a flight distance of 910 metres. That record stood for a decade. Not the end for the Puffin, part of it were reincarnated later with less fortune in two successive models.
The glory of Pathé. Flight by Manpower (1962).
