  1. I always admired the purity of form of the “Deuce” and the “Cadillac”. On an extended mission, how did pilots urinate while wearing those things? It must be even more of a problem now for the female pilots. I believe I read that some of the Sukhoi Su-34 “Fullback” fighter/bombers have a lavatory and even a galley. Luxury! I’m of an age where I would appreciate these things…

  2. I had a friend who was a P-38 pilot during the war, based out of England. For some reason, their planes were not equipped with leave tubes for the relief of ones bladder. He figured out that if you roll one of the side windows down just a little, and leaned towards it, the slipstream would suck the offending liquid right out. His wing man noticed him doing this on each mission, so one day he yelled “check 6” over the radio. My friend said he immediately obliged, thinking they had been bounced! Urine all over everything, all over the canopy, it froze immediately. He had a long flight back home, and some explaining to do to his crew chief!
