The NiD 62 was the last mass produced iteration of a family of fighters produced by the well-known Nieuport-Delage company starting in the mid-1920s. These lovely sesquiplanes were the backbone of the French Armée de l’air and Aéronavale until well into the 1930s. The NiD.629, in particular, was the ultimate variant equipped with a Hispano-Suiza HS 12Mdsh supercharged engine. Fifty of them were acquired by l’Armée de l’air in the mid-1930s. A dated design already, some of them were still in service at the start of WW2…, desperately obsolete by then.
A NiD-629 trio of the 2ème escadrille du GC I/6 (SPA 12). Precious pieces of aviation technology gorgeously portrayed by Paul Lengellé.
