Short PD.22: For SST-arters.

The British road to the Concorde had some pretty amazing designs studied by the country’s main manufacturers. The Short Brothers’ first try at a SST was the Mach 1.3 PD.22 conceived on April 1957 as a 104 passengers medium range airliner intended to serve in BEA’s longer routes. Powered by four Bristol Olympus 531 engines placed at the rear of its area-ruled fuselage, this elegant design had a 60° swept wing equipped with slats and slotted trailing-edge flaps.
