  1. I heard about this fighter: lots of firepower (four 30mm cannons) and lots of ooompf when it comes to thrust but short on range. Used during the Vietnam War where some of our F-4s and such fell to its teeth.

    • The Nineteen was a tough no-nonsense fighter, certainly better than its western counterpart; the F-100 “Hun”. Ahhh…the Vietnam experience; “Rhino” vs 19. The MiG-19 joined that party quite late (1968) and in good hands proved to be more than a worthy “dance partner”. The USAF pilots regarded the Famers with respect: as potent adversaries, more manoeuverable that the MiG-21 and faster than the MiG-17F – the best of both worlds, almost.
The actuation of the NVAF fighters in general during the war should be seen as part of the whole defence system….as that they performed more than decently against the American juggernaut.
