Convair F-102A Delta Dagger: “Carrier Capable”.

The USNS Card (T-AKV 40) was a WW2 Bogue-Class escort carrier reactivated on 16 May 1958 to serve as an aircraft transport boat. It was kept busy during the Vietnam War. Here carrying seventeen suitably cocooned USAF “Deuces”.
The Card gained some unwanted publicity when it was sunk in the port of Saigon on 2 May 1964 by two commando frogmen from the Vietcong 65th Special Operations Group. Refloated later, it was repaired, and returned to service at the end of that same year.

  1. What a lousy record to hold! Being the largest water born combatant sunk during the war, and to add insult to injury, it was a hand full of Viet Cong scuba divers!
