Michael Collins: Godspeed, CMP.

The unassuming Command Module Pilot of the Apollo 11 passed away today. Prior to that historic mission, Collins flew as pilot on the Gemini X mission. Attired here with the elegant David Clark G4-C spacesuit, Collins was undertaken some sort of simulation in the Gemini spacecraft, 1966.

He was an accomplised writer too. His “Carrying the Fire” is (one of) the best book ever written by an astronaut. Worth the revisit. Rest in Peace.

  1. Collins admitted he was disappointed when he found out he was not going to set foot on the moon, and especially, not getting to be the first, which all the other Apollo astronauts shared in common with him, except Neil of course! But, he said something to the effect of being all alone orbiting the moon was a glories filling!
